Red Ryder © 2008

This song is more or less a vehicle for my (then new) 6-string bass. An instrument I coveted for a long time much like Ralphy’s desire for the Red Ryder BB gun in The Christmas Story.
Obviously, the song is built around the 6-string bass and uses a fair bit of the instrument’s range. Geek Alert: I tune the bass the same way as a guitar (but down a fifth) so it’s B-E-A-D-F#-B which makes it much more natural for me to play. There aren’t a lot of instruments in the song, but the combination makes a fairly rich texture. In addition to the midi drum track, there are two keyboard parts; synth strings and the bottle-blow/calliope. Well, and the guitar, of course.
