I wrote this song last year (2025). The impetus was the Fukushima disaster that followed the earthquake disaster in 2011. Well, more specifically, Bill Mahar’s comment regarding the radioactive plume moving out to sea “it’s a globe, we’re all downwind.” This recording is just a quick demo for my producer, but I thought I’d share it here while I still have that freedom.
[CH]
Aboard this globe, our humble abode
We have loved and we have sinned.
But, no matter where you breathe the air
You will always be downwind.
[VERSE 1]
In the immediate wake of a 9.0 quake
(It was a mega-thrust event),
Fukushima prevailed till their generator failed
And out to sea the cloud went.
[CH]
[VERSE 2]
Science informs as the seawater warms
Our weather grows more intense.
Modern storms erase all norms
And yet still we sit on the fence.
[CH]
[VERSE 3]
“Your leaders are wrong” he said to the throng
“And none of them care about you.”
“It’s time they were squirmin’, get rid of the vermin”
“And fuck judicial review.”
[CH]
[VERSE 4]
Where do you go when the hot winds blow
And you’re running out of time?
[I’m] Gonna strike a blow against the status quo
And with any luck it’ll rhyme.
[CH]

What a great statement!
Yes, before they silence artists.
We are living in very precarious times.
SO relevant to express these lyrics NOW! Thanks, Ken
